The movie Fast Five is set in Brazil, but was filmed in Puerto Rico while Alissa and I were there this summer. The crew’s base was La Concha, where Alissa was put up by her office after I headed back to the mainland. Here are some images showing how San Juan, Puerto Rico, was transformed into Brazil.
The first is a building with a Puerto Rican ambulance parked in front. A sign has been affixed to the building identifying it as a Rio de Janeiro fire station (“Corpo de Bombeiros” is Portuguese for Corps of Firefighters). To the left you can see Brazilian flags and a Brazilian phone booth which have been installed.
Next is the Puerto Rican Department of Labor building (note the Spanish writing), which has been made to sport a Brazilian flag:
The front of the Labor building has been made to look like an outdoor cafe, complete with a menu sign in Portuguese:
