{"id":395,"date":"2012-11-01T11:08:12","date_gmt":"2012-11-01T15:08:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.aaronemmel.com\/cw\/?p=395"},"modified":"2012-11-01T11:11:55","modified_gmt":"2012-11-01T15:11:55","slug":"how-an-official-blog-post-gets-written","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aaronemmel.com\/cw\/2012\/11\/01\/how-an-official-blog-post-gets-written\/","title":{"rendered":"How an official blog post gets written"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s what a writer\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s career arc looks like: I used to put other people\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s names on things I wrote, and now other people put my name on things they write.<\/p>\n<p>The operational concept here is that any time you see something written by someone on behalf of an organization, especially if that person has a title behind their name, chances are good that someone else \u00e2\u20ac\u201c possibly a team of someones \u00e2\u20ac\u201c also contributed to that piece.<\/p>\n<p>In my case, I just coauthored <a href=\"http:\/\/www.modernizeaid.net\/2012\/10\/25\/driving-sustainable-global-health-programs-with-local-partners\/\" target=\"_blank\">a blog post on an international development principle called \u00e2\u20ac\u0153country ownership\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/a> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c basically, the idea that for development projects to be successful, local governments and civil society (as opposed to just the donors) have to have a hand in their planning, implementation and evaluation.<\/p>\n<p>I did write a few lines that made it into the final piece, but mostly, Lindsay, the excellent staff writer on my team, consulted with me about the policy points that should be included, and then composed the main draft herself, also pulling in input from my coauthor and on-the-ground reporting from some of our other colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>And voila \u00e2\u20ac\u201c I have another blog post.<\/p>\n<p>(But I did write what you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re reading now, so there is still some authenticity left on the web.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s what a writer\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s career arc looks like: I used to put other people\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s names on things I wrote, and now other people put my name on things they write.
