Martin read an excerpt from his forthcoming <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/076533206X\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=076533206X&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=aaremm-20\" target=\"_blank\">Dangerous Women<\/a> anthology (edited with Gardner Dozois).\u00c2\u00a0 Specifically, from his new novella about the Westeros civil war known as the Dance of Dragons.\u00c2\u00a0 It was awesome, of course, filled with all the intrigue and double-crossing you&#8217;d expect.<\/p>\n<p>The amusing thing was that the novella, at 35,000 words long, was apparently cut down (at Martin&#8217;s request) by Dozois from Martin&#8217;s original 80,000-word manuscript.\u00c2\u00a0 And that manuscript was in turn an excerpt from a 200,000 word history that Martin cut out from his eventually-to-be-published <em>Song of Ice and Fire <\/em>coffee table book.\u00c2\u00a0 The theme, in case you&#8217;re missing it, is that Martin&#8217;s Westeros projects end up being really long.<\/p>\n<p>Before the reading Martin mentioned that he might turn his unpublished Westeros history into his own version of Tolkien&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0618126988\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=0618126988&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=aaremm-20\" target=\"_blank\">The Silmarillio<\/a>n.\u00c2\u00a0 The working title: The Grimillion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This evening at Capclave George R.R.
