I recently contributed to C. Aaron Kreader’s Kickstarter project DungeonCraft (and encouraged my contacts to do so as well).  Based on one of Aaron’s alerts, I proceeded to support a second project, Arcana Agency.  Both have exceeded their funding goals and apparently are on their way to manufacturing.  In the process, I discovered something interesting, but perhaps not surprising, about the Kickstarter process: I feel invested (literally) in the success of these projects in a way that I don’t when I just purchase a product that’s already been created.  Knowing that my funds will help make the difference in whether or not it comes out, and waiting to find out what the outcome will be, provides an additional level of connection.

Not surprisingly, I’ve been inspired to try Kickstarter myself…the project I’m toying with has to wait its place in the queue, but I hope to have something to announce in late spring.
